February 28 is the end of “meterological winter” according to our weather forecasters. Who told the planet? At least 100 million people in the US are bracing for another round of freezing rain, ice pellets and snow. Let’s not forget record cold temperatures, frozen Great Lakes, and potholes that are destroying your car’s front-end alignment (even if it was 60 degrees in Sochi!).  Green News Update is ready to swing into spring – with a raft of themes and stories. Here’s some of what is on tap in the coming months: ongoing coverage of animals at risk, from Magellenic penguins to urban coyotes. Farming and food is near the top of our list – new urban farms, reducing food waste, and pollinators in peril. There’s dozens of new and recent books that did not make our 2013 Christmas list.
