Snow On: Birds Arriving

Red Winged-Blackbird

Red-winged Blackbird

It’s snowing like mad in the Washington DC area – birds arriving in droves despite blustery winds – for suet, cracked corn, black sunflower seeds, millet and corn. Who knew that birds drink water – and take baths to clean their feathers – when it’s below freezing ?

Our “big deal” today: a flock of red-winged blackbirds (males) arrived — and still here — to dig for grains on the ground, beautiful against the snow.  It’s their Oscar after-party. Alright, alright, alright! (Bobbie Faul-Zeitler)
